Meet the illustrator
I'm Margot van der Staay, a Revelstoke-based illustrator and mural artist inspired by wildlife, storytelling, and the outdoors. Every mural, illustration, and painting begins by hand, using traditional materials to create artwork that's full of personality and made to last.
Growing up in the Netherlands, I always dreamed of mountains and wild places. Eventually I packed up my life, travelled through mountain towns, and found my home in Canada. Living in Revelstoke definitely didn’t help my obsession with nature—now I’m constantly distracted by wildlife, changing seasons, and any excuse to be outside, which somehow all ends up in my work.
My work ranges from whimsical wildlife illustrations and custom murals to pet portraits and original paintings. Whether I'm creating a feature wall for a business, painting a meaningful commission, or illustrating one of nature's little weirdos, my goal is always the same: to tell a story that makes people stop, smile, and look a little closer.
I work with individuals and businesses throughout British Columbia and beyond, creating custom artwork that's personal, memorable, and entirely hand-crafted from start to finish.
Nature’s weirdos, brought to life with attitude.
